Raymarine Rudder Reference Transducer M81105
The Rudder Reference Transducer is a sensor that used to be included with many legacy Raymarine SmartPilot core packs, and with the ST60 series rudder system. This device accurately measures the angle of the boat's rudder(s) or outdrives, and sends that information back to the Autopilot Course Computer or a Rudder Angle Display.
This optional Rudder Reference Sensor Unit can be connected to current Raymarine Autopilot Control Units to provide rudder angle information to the autopilot system. The connection of a rudder reference unit is highly recommended, to help ensure optimum autopilot performance.
A rudder reference unit converts its movement information to rudder angle in +/- degrees. The more accurate the rudder angle information, the more accurately the autopilot system can keep to a correct course.
Additionally, many Raymarine multifunction displays and instrument repeaters have the ability to read and display rudder angle information over the SeaTalk navigation network.
The Rudder Reference Transducer is compatible with newer i70, ST70 and ST70+ instruments on the SeaTalkng network via an iTC-5 Transducer Converter (sold separately). The transducer is connected to the iTC-5 which converts the transducer signals to SeaTalkng.
The iTC-5 is then connected to the SeaTalkng backbone.
Note: If your system contains an older SPX, or Evolution Autopilot, the M81105 Rudder Reference unit should connect directly to the Course Computer or ACU Actuator Control Unit and not the iTC-5.
Unit to be positioned a minimum of 3" to a maximum of 12", parallel to the rudder. See the Instructions below.
