Dickinson Spitfire 180 is a compact, high-performance propane barbecue designed specifically for the rigors of the marine environment. It provides a reliable and convenient way to grill on board, whether you're anchored in a quiet cove or docked at the marina. Built for durability and space-efficiency, it's an ideal cooking solution for sailors and powerboaters alike.
Constructed primarily from high-grade 300-series stainless steel, the Spitfire 180 is engineered to withstand exposure to salt spray and humid air. The main body, roll-away hood, and internal components like the burner are all stainless, chosen for their balance of corrosion resistance and heat retention. While this material is robust, it's important to note that like most marine-grade stainless, it requires regular cleaning to prevent surface corrosion and maintain its appearance over time. The grill features a simple, effective design with a lid-mounted thermometer for temperature control and a reliable push-button piezo igniter for match-free lighting.
The fuel system is designed for versatility. Out of the box, it connects directly to a standard 1 lb disposable high-pressure propane canister via the included control knob, which also functions as the pressure regulator. This setup is perfect for portability and occasional use. For extended cruises, the grill can be connected to a larger 10 lb or 20 lb propane tank using an appropriate high-pressure hose (sold separately). Furthermore, for boats with an existing low-pressure propane system, the grill can be converted by replacing the standard regulator with a low-pressure control valve (part #15-193), allowing it to integrate seamlessly with your vessel's main fuel supply.
Key Features:
- Marine-Grade Stainless Steel Construction: The body, lid, and burner are all made from high-grade stainless steel, providing superior resistance to corrosion and ensuring longevity in a saltwater environment.
- 180 Square Inch Cooking Area: Offers ample space for grilling meals for a small crew, accommodating several burgers or steaks at once.
- Versatile Fuel Options: Natively runs on 1 lb disposable propane cylinders and can be adapted to run on larger high-pressure tanks or integrated into an onboard low-pressure propane system.
- Efficient Stainless Burner: The robust tube burner provides even heat distribution across the cooking grate and comes with an extended 3-year warranty.
- Push-Button Piezo Ignition: Provides a safe and reliable spark for lighting the grill without the need for external lighters or matches.
- Removable Drip Tray: A full-width, slide-out stainless steel tray effectively catches grease and drippings, minimizing flare-ups and simplifying cleanup.
- Space-Saving Design: Features a roll-away hood that tucks out of the way and includes detachable deck legs for tabletop use or easy stowing.
- Multiple Mounting Possibilities: While it includes deck legs, the grill is compatible with a wide range of optional Dickinson mounts for rails, pedestals, and fishing rod holders.

Trade-offs / Limitations:
While constructed from quality stainless steel, the Spitfire 180 is not immune to cosmetic discoloration from heat or surface rust if not maintained properly in a saltwater environment. Regular cleaning is essential to preserve its finish. This grill is designed for outdoor recreational use only and is not intended for commercial applications or to be used in a built-in installation.
Compatibility / Installation Notes:
The grill comes with the main body and lid assembly, two stainless steel grill grates, a burner, a high-pressure regulator/control knob for 1 lb canisters, a push-button igniter, a drip tray, and a set of deck legs. For integration with an onboard low-pressure system, the separate Low-Pressure Control Valve (part #15-193) is required. Before first use, and every time a fuel source is changed, a leak test must be performed on all gas connections using a soapy water solution. Ensure a minimum clearance of 36 inches (91cm) is maintained from all combustible materials during operation.
