The Fitzwright Bridge Lifebuoy is built for one purpose: saving lives on commercial vessels operating in Canadian and international waters.

Manufactured by Peters + Bey GmbH in Germany and branded by FitzWright Survival, this lifebuoy meets the strict requirements of SOLAS 74 (as amended), the IMO LSA Code, Canadian TP14475E standards, and carries DNV Type Approval Certificate No. TALB0000046, valid until July 22, 2026.

Purpose-Built for Bridge Wing Deployment
At 4.2 kg, this is the heavier class of Fitzwright lifebuoy - and that extra mass is intentional. The increased weight improves throwing distance and wind resistance, making it more effective in real-world emergency conditions on open water. It also provides sufficient mass to operate quick-release arrangements used with self-igniting lights and self-activated smoke signals when fitted as part of a complete MOB station.

The 30-inch (750 mm) diameter falls within the approved dimensional limits (outer diameter ≤ 800 mm, inner diameter ≥ 400 mm), ensuring compatibility with standard bridge-wing and deck lifebuoy brackets found on commercial vessels.

Inherent Buoyant Construction

Moulded from high-impact linear low-density polyethylene, this lifebuoy provides built-in flotation that does not depend on inflation. There are no air chambers to puncture, no valves to fail, and no inflation mechanisms to service. The buoyancy is inherent to the construction material itself, meaning the lifebuoy maintains its flotation capability even after surface damage. This is critical for equipment that may sit in exposed deck brackets for months or years between deployments.

Visibility and Detection Features

The lifebuoy is finished in international safety orange for maximum daytime visibility. Four retro-reflective tapes (MED-approved) are fitted to enhance detection in low-light conditions, searchlight sweeps, and nighttime search-and-rescue operations. Yellow 10 mm grab lines are equipped, and the encircling rope is replaceable for long-term serviceability.

Tested for High-Freeboard Vessels

This lifebuoy has been tested and approved for launching from heights up to 60 metres, making it suitable for bridge wings on larger commercial vessels, ferries, and offshore support vessels operating in Canadian waters and beyond.
