Ready-mixed marine paints were virtually unheard of in 1915, when J.C. Hempel began selling them to the ships that plied their trade in and around Copenhagen in Denmark.
It was a humble beginning – J.C. Hempel delivered the first order himself, cycling through town with the drums of paint dangling from his handlebars – but the company he founded would go on to become one of the world’s best-known coatings suppliers.
