Gluvit Waterproof Epoxy Sealer 2 Pound Kit RM330KC

Gluvit barrier coat seals and protects hulls and decks. Provides superior protection for fiberglass, wood, aluminum, and steel. Seals leaky seams and rivets in aluminum hulls, and leaks around fiberglass cabins or decks. Hard protective coating flexes with hull movements to bridge and seal hairline cracks. Gluvit fills minor cracks and pinholes.

Its long working time allows penetration into cracks to seal and strengthen. Acts as a barrier coat to minimize water absorption and galvanic corrosion. Deteriorated wood can be renewed with a few strokes to penetrate and strengthen stringers, decking, and molding.

On wooden hulls, Gluvit seals and protects planks and sheeting against water absorption and damage from marine parasites. On aluminum hulls, Gluvit seals seams and rivets and acts as a barrier coat to minimize galvanic corrosion. On jet skis, rowboats, and canoes, Gluvit provides abrasion resistance to protect hull sides and bottoms from damage by grounding on beaches or rocks.

For maximum ultraviolet protection, Gluvit must be painted after full cure. Gluvit can be overcoated with any marine paint or other coatings compatible with epoxies. Check with your paint supplier and make sure the coating you are using is epoxy friendly and suitable for your application.

Expect a 2 lb unit of Gluvit to cover 25-35 square feet, when applied at 6-8 mils.

Application Info

Deteriorated wood can be renewed with a few strokes of Gluvit. It penetrates and strengthens stringers, decking and molding. Gluvit’s excellent impact and abrasion resistant barrier coat minimize fiberglass blistering and corrosion. Seals leaky aluminum seams, rivets, and leaks around cabins or decks.

Repairing Leaky Aluminum Hulls:
Leaky seams in aluminum hulls can be difficult to seal. Gluvit is an excellent leak sealer and barrier coat for all types of surfaces. This waterproof epoxy flexes with hull or deck movements to resist the cracking or “checking” associated with typical epoxy systems.

Remove all contaminants from repair area with solvent or a strong detergent cleaner. Sand the area with 80-100 grit sandpaper to provide a profile for adhesion, then wipe with clean dry rags. Apply a coat of Gluvit with brush or roller at 6-8 mils and lightly tip with a foam brush to smooth surface if desired.

The finely ground fillers in Gluvit offer superior abrasion resistance. For exceptional corrosion resistance, especially in salt water, Gluvit can be applied to rivets or an entire hull. This epoxy has a “work window” of about 60 minutes at 72°F to provide adequate time to complete big jobs.

Renewing Soft or Rotted Wood:
Dry rot is a common problem on boats with wood cabins. Gluvit can help to restore damaged wood and seal it against further deterioration. Gluvit has a long “open time” that allows it to penetrate deep into porous or rotted wood.

Drill small holes in the damaged area and fill with Gluvit. It will be absorbed by the wood and its hard protective coating will seal against further attack by vermin or weathering.

Gluvit’s protective waterproof coating strengthens stringers, decking, and molding, and it flexes with hull movements to maintain effective bridging.

Gluvit FAQ:

Why is the resin can of Gluvit only partially full?
Materials are packaged in our facility by weight (ex. 2 lb or 8 lb.) All Gluvit containers are slack-filled (they are not full.) This leaves enough room for a power mixer to blend the resin and hardener entirely in one can.

Can I use a pigment in the Gluvit?
Yes, any type of epoxy-friendly pigment is recommended. It will be tinted, no dark color will be achieved. (Fibre-Glass Evercoat's pigments work well.) Do not use more than 5% pigment per total volume of epoxy.

What is the proper procedure for overcoating Gluvit?
To overcoat Gluvit after cure, wash the surface with warm soapy water or a dilute vinegar solution and a fine abrasive pad, or wet sand, then dry with clean towels or cloth. Frost-sand surface with 80-100 grit sand paper to remove any gloss.

What type of paint should be used to overcoat Gluvit?
Gluvit can be overcoated with any marine paint or other coating compatible with epoxies. Check with your paint supplier and make sure the coating you are using is epoxy friendly and suitable for your application.

What will happen if the Gluvit is not overcoated?
UV rays can deteriorate the epoxy, it will chalk (get cloudy) and possible crack over time. If there is no exposure to sunlight (ex. bottom of boat), there is no problem.

What is Gluvit's pot life?
Depends on temperature 60 minutes at 72°F.

Can Gluvit be thinned?
Yes, Toluene, Xylene, Xylol, or Lacquer thinner in small amounts (no more than 5%.)

Can I use Gluvit to coat the inside of my gas tank?
No, Gluvit is not resistant to gasoline.

Gluvit can be used to protect the outside of an aluminum gas tank. Gluvit is an excellent barrier coat system that encapsulates the metal to protect against corrosion and pitting.

Can I renew and seal soft or rotted wood with Gluvit?
Dry rot is a common problem on boats with wood cabins. GluvitTM can help to restore damaged wood and seal it against further deterioration. Gluvit has a long "open time" that allows it to penetrate deep into porous or rotted wood.

Drill small holes in the damaged area and fill with Gluvit. It will be absorbed by the wood and its hard protective coating will seal against further attack by vermin or weathering.

Gluvit's protective waterproof coating strengthens stringers, decking and molding, and it flexes with hull movements to maintain effective bridging. It also seals cracks, chips, pinholes, leaky seams and rivets.

What color is Gluvit?
Gluvit is similar to amber in color.

What is the consistency of Gluvit?
Gluvit is the consistency of paint. It is easily applied with a brush or roller.

Is Gluvit rated for potable water repairs?
No, Gluvit is not rated for potable water repairs.

Can I use Gluvit on concrete?
Yes, Gluvit performs well on properly prepared concrete. Make sure the concrete is fully cured and free of any contaminates including dust, dirt, grease, oil, etc. Apply the Gluvit with a roller or brush and allow to fully cure. Any areas exposed to direct sunlight should be overcoated with an epoxy friendly coating after full cure.

How do I remove excess Gluvit off of tools?
If Gluvit is still wet, clean tools with soap and warm water. Rubbing alcohol can also be used. Be sure to wash down all tools and surfaces before the epoxy cures.
