What Marine-Tex Can Repair

One of the strengths of Marine-Tex is its versatility across substrates. Mixing and Application

Marine-Tex is a two-part epoxy system mixed by volume at a ratio of 5 parts resin to 1 part hardener. When mixing by weight, the ratio is 6.3 parts resin to 1 part hardener. For best results, store the kit at approximately 70 degrees F (21 degrees C) before use to ensure the components are easy to dispense and mix.

Surface preparation is critical to achieving a strong bond. Clean the repair area thoroughly to remove dirt, oil, and grease using acetone or lacquer thinner, then sand the surface and remove any grit before applying the mixed compound.

Once the components are combined on a flat mixing surface, spread the mixture into a long, thin line to achieve a streak-free consistency and to extend working time. At 72 degrees F, pot life is approximately 30 minutes when spread thin. A concentrated mass of material, or higher ambient temperatures, will reduce working time to approximately 15 to 20 minutes due to the heat generated within the mixed epoxy. Full cure is achieved in 24 hours at a constant temperature of 72 degrees F. The product should not be applied in temperatures below 55 degrees F.

The 2 oz. (65 g) kit covers approximately 17 square inches at a thickness of 1/8 inch. The maximum recommended applied thickness in a single application is 1-1/2 inches.
